Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia surgery is a procedure designed to treat enlarged male breasts, a common condition caused by hormonal imbalance, genetics, medication use, or weight fluctuations. The surgery removes excess glandular tissue and fat, sometimes combined with liposuction, to achieve a firmer and more masculine chest shape.

Under deep sedation, the surgeon removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and occasionally skin. In many cases, liposuction is performed in combination with direct excision to sculpt the chest. The nipple-areola complex may be repositioned or reduced in size if necessary. The procedure usually takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours, and drains may be placed for the first 24–48 hours.

  • Restores a flat, masculine chest contour
  • Improves self-confidence and body image
  • Makes clothing fit better and more comfortably
  • Reduces discomfort caused by enlarged male breasts
  • Permanent results if a healthy lifestyle is maintained

Patients may experience swelling, bruising, and temporary sensitivity in the chest area. A compression garment must be worn for several weeks to support healing and reduce swelling. Most patients return to work and daily activities within 5–10 days. Final results become more visible after 2–3 months, once tissues fully settle.

Is gynecomastia surgery only for aesthetic reasons?

No. While many patients undergo this procedure to improve appearance, it also relieves physical discomfort, such as tenderness or heaviness in the chest.

Will the results be permanent?

Yes, as long as the underlying cause (hormonal imbalance, medication, weight gain) is controlled. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle supports long-lasting results.

Will there be visible scars?

Incisions are usually small and placed around the edge of the areola or in hidden areas of the chest. Scars typically fade over time and are discreet.

Does the surgery include liposuction?

Often yes. In many cases, liposuction is combined with tissue excision to refine the chest contour. The exact technique will be discussed during consultation.
