Facial Fat Grafting

Facial Fat Grafting, also known as facial lipofilling, is a surgical technique used to restore lost facial volume by transferring the patient’s own fat. This natural and versatile method provides overall facial rejuvenation, enhancing contours, firmness, and skin quality.

Fat is harvested from a donor area of the body (typically the abdomen, flanks, or thighs) using gentle liposuction. After careful purification, it is reinjected into areas of the face that require volume, such as the cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds, or chin. Since the tissue is autologous, it is completely biocompatible.

  • Natural restoration of facial volume
  • Improved contour and definition
  • Younger and more harmonious appearance
  • Skin regeneration due to the presence of stem cells in the fat
  • Tailored, long-lasting result
  • Cheekbones
  • Mid-face
  • Temples
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Under-eye area

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of treatment. It typically lasts 1.5–2 hours and is done on an outpatient basis. Mild swelling and bruising are normal in the first few days.

Initial swelling gradually resolves within 7–10 days. A portion of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed, so the final result stabilizes after approximately 3 months.
The longevity of the results varies and depends on individual factors, such as metabolism, lifestyle, and fat characteristics.

  • Hollow or aged facial appearance
  • Volume loss due to aging or weight loss
  • Facial asymmetries
  • Deep wrinkles and signs of aging
  • Complement to other procedures (e.g., facelift, blepharoplasty)

Does all the fat survive?

A portion of the fat is naturally reabsorbed. The amount that remains varies from person to person and cannot be fully predicted.

Can the procedure be repeated?

Yes, fat grafting can be repeated to enhance volume or refine results as needed.

Is it an alternative to fillers?

Yes, it is an autologous and long-lasting alternative to fillers. Unlike fillers, fat provides regenerative effects and is not fully reabsorbed.

Are the scars visible?

No. The incisions for fat harvesting and injection are tiny and virtually invisible once healed.
