Ear Surgery | Otoplasty

Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to correct prominent, asymmetrical, or misshapen ears. It is most commonly performed to reposition protruding ears closer to the head, improving facial harmony and boosting self-confidence. The results are natural, balanced, and permanent.

The procedure involves a small incision made behind the ear, allowing the surgeon to reshape or reposition the cartilage. Depending on the case, cartilage may be folded, sutured, or partially removed to achieve the desired contour and projection. The scar is discreet and hidden in the natural fold behind the ear.

  • Correction of prominent ears (“bat ears”)
  • Improved facial balance and harmony
  • Enhanced self-confidence, especially in young patients
  • Symmetry between both ears
  • Permanent and natural-looking results
  • Prominent or protruding ears
  • Ear asymmetry
  • Congenital deformities of the auricle
  • Dissatisfaction with previous ear surgery (revision otoplasty)

Initial swelling and bruising are common and subside within 7–10 days. Most patients return to work or school within a week.
Results are immediately visible, though they continue to refine as healing progresses.
The outcome is permanent, although minor asymmetries may persist due to individual anatomical differences.

At what age can ear surgery be performed?

Otoplasty can be safely performed from the age of 10, once ear development is complete. It is also suitable for adults of any age.

Will the scars be visible?

No. The incision is made behind the ear and the scar is hidden in the natural fold, becoming almost invisible over time.

Is the procedure painful?

Mild discomfort or tightness may be felt after surgery, but pain is usually minimal and well managed with painkillers.

Can the ears “go back” to their original shape?

No. The correction is permanent, although small differences between the ears are normal due to individual anatomy.
